Domaine Thierry Mortet is a rare find, a true "hidden gem" to American consumers - an increasingly hard-to-identify specie among Burgundy wine. Thierry continues to win enthusiastic plaudits in the French press, but has not succeeded in getting the influential American wine critics (Parker, Suckling) to sing its praise. However, to the true wine lovers, this may be more of a blessing than a curse.  If and when (more likely the latter) looked through the prism of the influential wine writers, the price of this wine will also spike up significantly, a phenomenon we have seen happening too many times.

One of the leading wine traders in London made the following observation: "it may be simply because he (Thierry) is a bit short of fancy appellations - one little cuvée of Grand Cru would no doubt do his reputation a lot of good - but might also put his prices up, and these remain very modest". In terms of winemaking, three or four days of cold maceration are followed by two weeks of fermentation, with just a touch of cooling to keep the temperature around 31-33C (below 35, at least), then into barrel.
